JIMI HENDRIX Medallion Up For Auction
October 11, 2005According to NationalJeweler.com, a gilt medal worn by Jimi Hendrix when he set his guitar on fire at a Monterey Pop Festival appearance will go on the auction block next month.
Christie's will sell the medallion, valued at $60,000 to $80,000, on Nov. 21 during its sale of rock and pop memorabilia, reports Agence France-Presse.
Hendrix wore the medallion during a 1967 performance that marked the U.S. debut of his band, THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE, in Monterey, Calif. The owner of the medallion met Hendrix at a New York nightclub after the festival and joined him on tour later that year, the news agency reports.
Other items slated for sale at the November auction include handwritten lyrics by the late Jim Morrison, former lead singer of THE DOORS, early poems written by Bob Dylan and a Tom Tom drum used by former Beatle Paul McCartney in the 1950s.
